I Can Make Shoes is a unique shoemaking school which has been paving the way with teaching innovative shoemaking techniques for over a decade.
The original I Can Make Shoes'er - Amanda founded the company back in 2010. As a native Aussie, Amanda did her footwear training in Sydney, Australia. It was when she moved to London that she realised it was really difficult to make shoes without all the machinery she was taught to use. She set out to develop a shoemaking process that makes the craft accessible for people to do from home and she’s been spreading the love of shoemaking ever since.
Tessa graduated with a BA in Footwear Design and Development at Cordwainers, London College of Fashion. Focusing on sustainability for her graduate collection, she developed a range of footwear designed to never make it into landfill. She then went on to work as a cobbler for Christian Louboutin. After some time Tessa wanted to share her experiences and becoming a teacher felt like the natural next step.
Teacher & Digital Designer
Another Aussie in our team is the lovely Miette from Adelaide, Australia. Miette moved to London to study Fashion Textiles at London College of Fashion. She discovered her love for shoemaking when she joined one of our short courses and never looked back. Miette trained in footwear right here at I Can Make Shoes and has experienced first hand how easy learning shoemaking can be.
The newest member of our teaching team, Lilla graduated with a BA in Footwear Design and Development at Cordwainers at London College of Fashion. Her graduate collection focussed on the importance of comfort and practicality whilst also being stylish. She went on to intern at footwear designer Kat Maconie, where she gained an insight into the footwear industry.
Teacher in New York
With a background in architecture but a love for shoes Kiren came along to one of our shoemaking classes and the rest was history. She completed an internship with I Can Make Shoes before progressing to our head teacher role in under 3 years. Kiren now lives in New York and heads up our shoemaking classes at the Brooklyn Shoe Space.
